Torrance CitiCABLE Programs Named Winners in Fifteenth Annual Regional Television Awards Competition

Torrance, Calif., June 7, 2011 – Torrance CitiCABLE took home five prestigious awards recently. The States of California and Nevada Chapter of the National Association of Telecommunication Officers and Advisors Inc. (SCAN NATOA Inc.) awarded the local government access channel for excellence in television programs.  SCAN NATOA hosted its 15th Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Hilton Long Beach & Executive Meeting Center - Long Beach, California.

Judged by an independent panel of professionals in the television business, the City of Torrance’s cable programming garnered awards in five of the 35 categories this year.  Torrance CitiCABLE won best program in the News category for is weekly show, “This Week in Torrance.”  CitiCABLE also won first place in the Public Affairs category for its video production of Mayor Frank Scotto’s 2010 State of the City Address. CitiCABLE’s coverage of City Council meetings, and its weekly sports show, “The SportsDesk” garnered third place in their respective categories of Public/Community meeting and Sports Show. Torrance CitiCABLE’s overall programming also merited third place in Overall Excellence.

The Star Awards were established to recognize outstanding achievement in television programming produced by government access facilities serving the States of California and Nevada communities.  The Awards ceremony was held as part of a one-day conference entitled “Focusing on the Big Picture.”

CitiCABLE has won many awards over the years including national, regional, and local recognition. With a potential viewing audience of more than 60,000, it is seen on the Time Warner Cable System Channel 3 and Verizon FiOS Channel 31 in Torrance with programming cablecast 24-hours a day. CitiCABLE is managed by the Office of Cable and Community Relations, which provides cable television consumer protection, audio/visual services, still photography, programming of four cable television channels, management of Torrance Community Television, TCtv Channel 28, the public access facilities and services, public information, community relations, management of content on the City’s website www.TorranceCA.Gov as well as the operation of Torrance CitiSOUNDS AM 1620.
